Term 6

What an exciting term ahead!

History - Why did the Titanic change the world?

DT - Why do levers and sliders make books more appealing?

RE- Why do we have places of worship?

Music - Is one person more important when playing together?

PSHE -Does everyone have a strength?

Science - Are all plants and trees the same?

PE - How is coordination going to help with catching?  Is balance or co-ordination more important?

In English, we will be continuing to write short stories focusing on including adjectives, capital letters and full stops. In Maths, we will continue our learning of the place value of numbers but we extend this to numbers up to 100, we also look at measurement, money and time.

English - The Enormous Turnip

The children were retelling the story today after sequencing it yesterday. They had great fun showing the farmer and his wife did to pull the turnip up.

History - The Titanic

The children listened to a story about the Titanic. They then discussed the story and what happened. They shared their own thoughts and reflections. The children used some excellent vocabulary.

The children have progressed onto sorting and discussing the images that would represent rich and poor people on the ship. This fascinated the children. They have now began to look at time lines of events.

PSHE - Digital devices

In PSHE, the children explored what digital devices we might all use. They discussed the positives and negatives of using them. We then reminded each other about to keep safe on them.

Maths - finding a quarter of a shape and amounts

During the Maths lessons this week, the children were able to recognise that to find a quarter as shape or amount had to split into 4 equal groups. They used counters to help them with this too or circled around images. Great work Year 1.

Computing - creating Kandinski circles

The children were able to use their understanding of line and colour on Paint to create their own versions. Once they grasped how to hold the cursor down, great examples were created.

Science - Deciduous and Evergreen Trees

What fun was had exploring and learning about the difference between the trees. The children recognised about the leaves and colour and discussed what would happen in the seasons to the two types of trees.

PE - developing the underarm throw and catching skills

The children worked hard today learning how to throw with an underarm technique and then catch it again. Great progress was made and the children were supportive of one another.

RE - comparing traditions

In RE, the children were able to discuss the traditions of Christmas for Christians in both the UK and Australia. They learnt that the belief in God remains the same but how the weather maybe different, what we eat and where we celebrate might look different.

Music - Next steps in the ocarinas

As part of the Music Curriculum, this term we revisit the ocarinas. The children modelled how and where to hold them. They were able to keep in tune to the music whether to play for 1, 2 or 3 beats. Great work everybody.

Design Technology -  moving levers

How wonderful to put into place our new knowledge of levers to create our very first versions. The children were fascinated and excited to show each other their design and then carefully explained how it worked using their new vocabulary.

Maths - one more and less

To further embed the children's knowledge and understanding of number, they have been identifying one more and less with the deines and ones. What quick number work Kindness Class!
