Welcome back year 2! We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas break with your families.
This term the children will continue to be focussing on significant individuals who have made an impact on society today. We will be learning all about Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton, discussing what happened on their expeditions and how these explorers are perceived today.
In our RE lessons we will continue to build upon your understanding of Islam and the Quran's teachings. In PE, we will explore the units of Dance and Target games. In our Science learning this term, the children will be identifying different materials and understanding the characteristics and how materials can be used in different ways. In art we will be looking at sculpture and creating our own sculptures using Spring as a stimulus.
Year 2 SATS Workshop
Thank you to everybody for coming to the SATs meeting last week. Here is a copy of the power point that I shared. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.
It is speeches week and in English we have been learning how to deliver our own speech. We have been learning all about polar bears and why they need our help. We will then use this knowledge in our own speeches.
In history this week we became historians and were looking at clues to find out who Robert Scott is and why he is famous. We were excited to find out that he was an explorer who wanted to be the first person to reach Antarctica. We cannot wait to find out more about him.
In computing this week we have been learning about giving and following instructions. We found out that it is important that we make sure our instructions our clear. This is in preparation for giving the computer instructions.
In art this week we continued looking at two different sculptures. We focussed on form, texture and positive and negative space.
In music this week we became musicians and were playing the ocarina. We retrieved our knowledge of the notes we learned in Year 1 and used them to play hot cross buns!
In computing, we continued our learning on instructions. We found out an algorithm is when we give instructions to a computer or a robot. We then explored what happens when we change the order of a set of instructions and predicted where the beebot might end up after giving it an algorithm.
