Science

This term in Science we are looking at the different parts of the body that help us to digest food.

In our first lesson, we looked closely at the different teeth found in the human mouth and discussed each tooth's function.

To help us understand how important it is to look after our teeth, we carried out an experiment by placing whole eggs into different drinks: milk, water, orange juice and cola.

We left the eggs in the different drinks for a week checking on them daily to see if the drinks were having any effects of the egg shell.

In Lesson4 of Science, we carried out an experiment looking at the digestive system of a human.

Using digestive biscuits, banana, orange juice and water, we placed these into plastic bags (to represent the stomach) and churned these together, just like how our own stomachs. Once this was mixed up well, the mixture was poured into the leg from a pair of tights (representing the small intestines), where the liquid and nutrients passed though the outside. Then, using a towel (to represent the large intestines), we squeezed the remaining mixture in the tights to continue to take out the remaining fluid. Afterwards, we cut a hole in the end of the tights and squeezed out the remaining mixture which looked like poo.
