Term 2
Remembrance Day - Making poppies
As part of Remembrance Day, we created poppies using mosaic skills to create the leaves. These were then stuck together and added to our wreath that will be laid on our cenotaph during the remembrance service.
English
This term in English, we are starting with narratives as we use 'How to train your dragon' as an inspiration. We have read a small section of the book and watched the introduction to the film to help inspire us as we create ours. We can't wait to share our work with you!
Maths
In Maths this term, we continue our work on addition and subtraction before moving onto are and then multiplication and division. Lots of learning to be had!
Science - Sound
This term, our Science learning takes us on investigating how sound is made and how we can hear sound. We will have an excellent time learning how to insulate objects and taking part in fun investigations.
Area
We have started our learning on area. We investigated what area is and how we calculate area. We discussed how measuring the area of a rectangle is not possible with circles as they leave gaps but if we measure the area with squares, there are no gaps and a more accurate representation of the area can be found. In this lesson, we had fun creating different shapes with the same area using post it notes.
Geography - Rivers
This term in Geography, we will be focusing on Rivers and how they are formed using our knowledge of the water cycle from last term. We will also cover how rivers have been an important reason when people have come to settle. Finally, we will discuss the types of flooding, flood defenses and how to track a river on a map.
Guided Reading
In Guided Reading this term, we are focusing on 'Why the Whales Came' by Michael Morpurgo. It is a story that is set on the island of Bryher, one of the Isles of Scilly, off the coast of Cornwall, in the year 1914. Our main character, Gracie Jenkins walks us through life on Bryher and why she is warned away from the mysterious Birdman. With the start of the war looming, how will life change on the island of Bryher?
Religious Education - Hinduism
In RE this term, we are focusing on Hinduism as we dig deeper to understand the religion. We will be focusing on their festivals, prayer rituals and beliefs that they share.
Design and Technology - Structures
In DT, we are focusing on structures in the style of food packaging. We will be looking at the features of packaging and evaluating how well they protect, preserve, contain and promote their contents. We will be looking at the packaging shape alongside looking at the design process, especially with the use of CAD. Finally, we will design our own packaging using nets.
PSHE - Relationships
In PSHE, we will continue our learning on relationships and look at when it is ok to keep secrets, the qualities we bring to friendships and how similarities and differences can help shape relationships.
Music - Singing
In Music, we are continuing our Young Voices preparations by learning the songs and the dance moves. We can't wait to perform these songs in the arena next term!
French - Numbers
Our French learning takes us to learning numbers up to 100. We will be looking at pronunciation and fluency whist learning the numbers before doing mathematical calculations in French!
1-30
In our first lesson, we investigated numbers 1 to 30 in French. We noticed some similarities with the numbers that helped us understand it more. Tres bien Hope Class!
PE - Hockey
One of our PE sessions this term is Hockey. We can't wait to learn how to dribble with the ball correctly using open and reverse stick as well as learning the push pass as we apply these to games.
Dribbling
In today’s lesson, we have focused on dribbling with the ball using an open and reversed stick. Some of us found it challenging dribbling with the ball and rotating our wrist. However we showed resilience and we were able to dribble around obstacles. We applied this to a game where we dribbled round cones before adding an actual defender. Super work everyone.
PE - Yoga
Nameste! In Yoga, we will be focusing on our breathing and taking our bodies through a journey as we relax and take time in our lessons to be mindful and reflective.
