Term 5
Term 5
Another busy term ahead and one where the children will be able to practise and rehearse their learning across the curriculum. A trip to Burghley House is up ahead too!
In Maths this term we embed our knowledge of key learning so far before delving deeper into the world of fractions!
In English, we start by explore a range of texts before completing a very exciting book review of one of our favourite stories.
There are so many exciting opportunities this term as we look ahead to the wider curriculum too. From word processing in Computing, developing ocarina skills in Music, drawing techniques in Art to Athletics in PE and The Great Fire of London in History.
WOW! We are so excited!
Art - How is texture presented in drawing?
Science - Are the basics of all animals the same?
History - What was the lasting impact?
PE (1) - Why does communication help you succeed as a team?
PE (2) - What can you do to improve your own performance?
RE - Who was Jesus according to Christians?
PSHE - Is everyone part of a community?
Music - Is it always better to play at a faster tempo?
Computing - How can I change how a text looks on a computer?
Music
We have started the term retrieving our ocarina knowledge and skills from Term 3. This week we practiced our playing technique and were able to play as a large group, in time, together! Great work as musicians!
Computing
In Computing this term, we are learning word processing. In our first lessons we have been practicing writing our name and a writing simple sentences to create a poster. We have learnt how to use the space bar, capital letters and the backspace too. Great work!
English
This term we started learning how to write a book review. Using two Anthony Browne novels, Gorilla and The Tunnel, we created a toolkit for what a good book review looks like, discussed our thoughts and feelings about the stories and then drafted our own. There were some excellent examples and reasons the children gave for enjoying these books. Impressive!
History
Exciting times in History as we explore the Great Fire of London! This week the children looked at different sources to see which gave us the best evidence to prove what happened is true. The children worked as Historians to use the sources which help make sense of the past. Great work!
RE
In RE we have explored how Jesus built a bridge for humans to get to God when he was crucified on the cross. The children acted this out and discussed why Jesus did this. We also have looked how Jesus forgave those that betrayed him, even when they put him on the cross to die. This led us to talk about the importance of forgiveness and how we might do this.
Computing - word processing
We have continued word processing during Computing and this week we create a poster for a missing toy teddy which included clear sentences with capital letters and full-stops. The children used the caps lock key, the space bar, the backspace and the shift key to navigate around the keyboard. Great progress and brilliant team work helping each other!
