Term 4

Welcome to Term 4, we can't wait to continue to share our learning with you!

Science-Materials

Can the properties of materials be changed?

This term we continue to learn more about materials and their properties. We build on our knowledge of electricity from Year 4 and apply it to learning about the properties of different materials. Investigating thermal conductors and insulators and explaining how materials are chosen for particular purposes according to their properties, we then investigate how scientists create new materials along with the work of Marie Curie.

RE-Incarnation

Was Jesus the Messiah?

This term we build upon our knowledge of salvation from our last unit of learning, to explore further how Jesus was the long awaited for messiah, whose coming was foretold in the prophecies. We will learn more about what he was to be like and understand how Christians view his birth, life, death and resurrection were part of God's plan.

Exploring the Big Frieze

In lesson one, we explored the Big Frieze in the hall. Looking at the incarnation panel, we astounded one another with the knowledge we could share about it and some of the symbolism represented.

Geography-South America

What has made South America successful?

After learning about North America last term, we now locate South America and the countries within the continent. We focus on Brazil and some of the physical features and begin to understand the distribution of natural resources in South America and how these have helped to lead to it's success. Comparing the use of land and climate to other parts of the world, we will begin to explore the advantages and disadvantages of tourism here too.

Music- Recorders

How do fingerings and the pitch of a note relate?

This term we begin our musical journey of learning to play the recorder, something we will continue to build upon later this academic year and into Year 6 too. We learn how a sound is made by covering the holes to play different notes effectively and make a clear sound. After learning the notes B,A and G, we learn simple songs to play, focusing on combining the notes smoothly.

PSHE- Health and Wellbeing

How is your personal identity created?

This term we continue to focus on our own health and wellbeing by identifying what contributes to our personal identity including race, gender, family, faith, culture, hobbies and our likes and dislikes. We will explore ways we can respect and express our own individuality and that of others along with our different personal qualities. With a sharp focus on wellbeing, we will look at ways we can boost our own moods and improve emotional wellbeing through doing things that we enjoy.

Working with a representative from the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, we explored the necessity of wearing a helmet when riding a bike. It was certainly a thought provoking session.

DT-Food

Is seasonality important when creating a recipe?

Working as innovators, we explore the seasonality of foods and explore how we can use this knowledge to cerate our own bread recipes. We will learn how to knead ingredients and understand the importance of following a bread recipe with care.
