Term 2
Term 2
We hope you had a lovely half term with your families and friends. This is a very exciting term with the lead up to Christmas! The children have so many nice art activities planned which we are sure they will love to show you at Christmas time. Along with this we shall be looking at the following texts: Gingerbread Man, Handa's Surprise and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In Maths we shall be continuing to work on our addition and subtraction skills.
History
This term, in history we are learning about Florence Nightingale and the significant impact that she has made. We have found about what nursing was like in Victorian times and role played what it would have been like for the soldiers to be taken into hospital at that time.
PE
In PE this term the children have started their unit on gymnastics. They worked together to begin to perform a sequence.
PSHE
In PSHE this week we have retrieved our knowledge of our 'star behaviour'. We focussed on how we sit on the carpet and how we sit at our tables.
Science
In science, we have looking at bulbs and seeds. We have talked about the similarities and differences between bulbs and seeds and observing them closely.
Road Safety Week
The children focused heavily on Road Safety Week 2024 this week. We understand the importance of keeping ourselves safe when using the roads or nearby to any roads. The children have complete many activities throughout the week such as creating their own road safety superhero and mind mapping key strategies to keep safe. Finally, the children used role play to practice crossing the road individually and in a pair. Great understanding, Year 2!
RE
This week we explored the story of the burning bush. We listened carefully to each of the parts of the story that continues on from previous weeks. After listening to the story and discussing the main parts, the children then showed their understanding of the story by role playing the key parts. The children worked in small groups to do this— great work, Year 2!
Also, we have explored the story of the exodus. We listened carefully to each of the parts of the story that continues on from previous weeks. After listening to the story and discussing the main parts, the children then showed their understanding of the story by ordering the key parts in the correct sequence. The children worked in small groups to do this— great work, Year 2!
Reading
In our Guided Reading sessions, we have started to practice our retrieval skills on Chapter 1 and 2 of 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark'. We have enjoyed reading the chapters, discussing vocabulary and using the text to retrieve answers about the story.
For Reading For Pleasure, we have enjoyed reading 'The Lost Puppy' by Holly Webb. We have been waiting eagerly to find out whether the little puppy, Toby, gets reunited with is owner Ruby. We have our fingers crossed as we come to the end of the story. We have loved it!!
