English - Little Red Riding hood - To re tell a story

Year 1 have been building sentences together and using key vocabulary to re tell the story of the Little Red Riding Hood. We have some fantastic pieces of published work complete.

In class Collective Worship this week, Year 1 have found discussed how we could mend and fix broken books and toys in order to reduce waste that we throw away. We had some damaged books in our reading area that the children fixed together.

Year 1 have spent the week preparing a speech, to tell everyone how they are going to save a ladybird that we found stuck in a puddle. The children have created their own prompt card using images to remind them what to say. Here is an example of one of our speeches.

Welcome back to school and Term 3!

As always, we have many exciting learning opportunities lined up this term. The children have already had an amazing start and have leaped back into their learning like super stars.

This term we shall be learning all about animals including humans in our Science lessons and they have already been learning about the different animal groups and can now talk about the differences between an amphibian, mammal, reptile, bird, fish and insects. In our Maths lessons we have made a great start at looking at place value within 20, we have been completing number tracks and matching numbers to amounts.

In our Art lessons this term we are learning all about drawing and discussing why line is important. The children have already begun to explore the artwork 'A line going for a walk by Paul Klee, Animals by Pablo Picasso and the Elephant by David Shrigley'. I think you will agree we have some amazing artists in year one!
