Welcome to our class page!  What a pleasure it is to share the children's learning and experiences with you. .

Welcome to Term 5!

We can't believe we are into the summer term, we look forward to continuing to share our love of learning with you.

Our learning in Geography this term takes us for a journey to Egypt. We will build upon our Historical learning from last term, as we revisit what makes a civilisation and focus upon the theme of Settlements. Retrieving knowledge of Ancient Egypt, we will continue to explore how it is similar and differs to Egypt today. As we apply our prior learning about rivers and settlements from previous terms learning, along with trade and how important it was to life in Ancient Egypt and today due to importance of the River Nile we will answer the question- Why are Egyptian settlements successful?

In Science, we continue to explore  the work of biologists as we build upon our knowledge of identifying types and functions of different teeth and how it links to digestion and diet in animals. Classifying animals in different ways we will group, identify and name a variety of living things in our local environment and wider world. We will recognise environments can change and explore how it poses a danger to those living things. This will allow us to explore our big question- Are some animals more alike than others?

IRE, we spend the whole of the term exploring the significance of pilgrimage both religious and non-religious. We are able to build upon our learning about belief in lifestyle for Muslims and the significance of Hajj. We will also get the opportunity to go on our own pilgrimage to Walsingham Abbey.

Our Guided Reading text this term is a fantastic non- fiction book which explores different unexplained mysteries. Ask your child what they know about Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch!

Reading books

Please can we ask that reading books and records come into school every day so that we can listen to your child read in school as often as possible. We encourage children to read to their parents or siblings at home and leave a comment in the reading log. Our new reading logs have room for pupils to write a comment and give the book or chapter read a mark out of 10. Encourage your child to think about and explain orally why they give that score.

Homework and Spellings

Each week, your child will be given spellings to practice at home alongside a piece of Maths and English homework. Please can we ask that these are completed at home and are handed in every week so that we can provide feedback. These should be handed in on a Wednesday to allow time for marking.

Alongside homework, we will be setting times table challenges on MathShed to help improve your child's fluency when answering times table questions.

PE Days

In term 5, we have 2 PE sessions in school. This will be taking place on a Monday for athletics and a Friday for orienteering.

Please can we ask that the correct PE kit is to be in school ready for lessons at all times including outdoor PE kit as we like to get outside and be active as much as possible.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact school where we will be happy to help you.
