Term 4

Term 4

Another busy term ahead and one where the children will be able to practise and rehearse their learning across the curriculum. A trip to the farm is in sight.

In Maths this term we embed our knowledge of place value to 50 adding, taking away and measuring length and mass.

In English, we will continue to understand how capital letters and full stops are used through the writing of instructions and writing simple stories based around Jack and the Beanstalk and The Gingerbread Man.

History -  How has farming changed over time?

DT -  Why is food tasting important?

Religious Education - How do Muslims live?

PSHE - Is everyone special?

Science - Are we all the same or different

Music - How can we make a clean sound?

World Book Day

The children had a fantastic time dressing up as their favourite book character and watching a lesson online led by Julia Donaldson. They got to visit the library and explore all the books too.

PSHE

We begin the term with understanding how to keep safe in the sun. The children explored what would be needed and not needed. They were confident in explaining why they selected certain equipment and clothing. Impressive knowledge.

English - speaking and listening

As part of the work this week, the children have acted out the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. They had retrieved phrases learnt in Reception and certainly knew how to tone, volume and actions to the story.

Music - Ocarinas

Lesson one in Music this term saw the children learning about what an ocarina was and where to put their fingers. Then they learnt how to blow into it! Great work Year One.

DT - Fruit tasting

This week, the children explored, tasted and drew fruits that may be used in a fruit kebab. They described the taste and explained if they liked it or not.

History - Woad Farm

The children explored what the term 'woad' meant and discovered the significance for Boston. They then learnt what it was used for and observed how it would die material and their hands blue! The children were fascinated about it's significance in the past and how it can be used today.

Maths - measuring with non-standard units

In Maths, the children have been using the vocabulary of longer and shorter when comparing objects. They then progressed to using cubes to calculate the length of objects.

PE - Fitness

During PE, the children were acting as the air and the lungs. They moved in and out and began to then think and feel what it was like when they were breathing during exercise. The children also completed lots of exercises following circuits.

English - BINGO

To build up and embed the use of vocabulary within the story of The Gingerbread Man, the children played the game of Bingo. After the game, the children then used the words within sentences.

RE - Muslim faith

The children have been reflecting on their learning about Islam and today explained what it would be like to be a Muslim. Some great discussions and evidence from previous learning was shown.

Road Safety - Stay Safe Partnership

As part of their retrieval work, the children had a visit from the Stay Safe Partnership who discussed, modelled and quizzed the children about the road safety. They spoke about the hazards on the road and then learnt how to cross a zebra crossing.

Chinese Dance - retrieval

The children had the wonderful opportunity perform in a Chinese dance workshop. They recalled information from Reception and then learnt and followed some moves. The children were incredible.
