Term 4
Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely half term.
This term the children will continue to be focusing on significant individuals who have made an impact on society today. We will be learning all about Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton, discussing what happened on their expeditions and how these explorers are perceived today.
We will be continuing to learn about different materials in our Science lessons
and will be focussing on investigations and fair tests. In Geography children will be using a range of sources to study a new area (North and South Pole). They will be making comparisons to our local area.. We will also be learning how to use an atlas to name and locate continents. Finally we will be learning to name and locate the five oceans of the world.
Our Maths learning this term will be continuing to learn about statistics and then moving on to shapes and fractions.
A great start to the first week. The children really enjoyed exploring how we can change the shape of objects by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. We discussed why some objects can be changed and why some we can't change, depending on what they are used for.
The children have been showing lots of knowledge on 2D shapes, talking about their properties and creating the shapes themselves.
This week the children have been having lots of fun re-visiting how to print. They etched a design onto styrofoam and then they have to use two colour of ink to create their design.
This term we are learning the skills of invasion games, where there are two teams and two goals. This week we have been learning how to keep the ball close to our bodies to keep possession. We have also focussed on the importance of keeping our head up and looking around us so that we can see our teammate, space and any defenders.
In design technology we have been exploring different joining techniques. The children had a go at gluing, taping and sewing fabric together and decided which one they thought was the best joining technique. This was in preparation for designing and making their own bags.
We have been reading the text 'Traction Man'. The children have been drawing parts of the story to help them develop vocabulary before writing the sink scene taken from the text. Next we are going to be writing predictions of what we think Traction Man will do on his next mission before finally writing our own story all about Traction Man.
The children absolutely loved exploring our new library, they found the art work on the walls amazing to look at and it was so nice watching and listening to the children share new books and stories with their friends. Love of reading!
Wow! World Book Day, the children had so much enthusiasm to talk about the character they had dressed up as and why it was their favourite book. It is such a pleasure to share books with the children and enter their magical worlds alongside them.
The children have been drawing some amazing observational drawings of flowers ready for them to print a flower using ink and rollers.
