Term 2
Term 2
''It's good to be you''
This term the children will understand how and why everyone is special, we will begin to understand tolerance and explore a range of cultures and celebrations. We are also very excited about this term as we will begin learning the songs for our Christmas Nativity. In Maths, the children will begin to explore counting and number recognition but also take part in solving problems. The children will now split for phonics daily and consolidate their set 1 sounds and begin to read a selection of words with greater independence. We are looking forward to seeing how all of our children continue to flourish and grow this term. There will also be lots of experiences for Reception to to take part in, this will include our school trip and a range of visitors.

In our first we we have been reading the story 'Sparks in the sky'. We have spoken about Guy Fawkes and the celebrations for Bonfire Night and discussed how to keep safe around fireworks and when using sparklers. The children have enjoyed independent learning time, picking out pumpkin seeds with tweezers, creating firework sounds with musical instruments and identifying 2D shapes.

In Maths, Joy class have been subitising with the numbers 4 and 5. We have been looking at pictures showing different amounts and recognising quickly the number that is shown.
Reception were very lucky to have a visit from Boston fire department this week. The firefighters brought their fire engine with them but within minutes of being at school they were radioed through and needed to attend an emergency. We spoke about the importance of their job and with help from Mr Hubbert we tried on some of their uniform.

Our first trip out of school and on a coach was to Westgate Woods.
Joy class enjoyed a walk through our local woods to find different signs of Autumn. We had a great time and returned to school with bags full of natural autumn objects that we had collected.
