Term 5

Maths

In our maths learning so far, we have been making groups and arrays using our 2s, 5s and 10s knowledge. We have been able to make groups using practical objects to then help us draw these and answer the number sentences.

Art

In Art, we have been exploring three pieces of art work that all show paintings of flowers. We have discovered the pieces are landscape, close up and still life paintings. We have explored the features of each painting and then re-created the pieces to create our own. We have explored Water Lily Pond by Claude Monet, Petunia No.2 by Georgia O'Keeffe and Bouquet by Henri Matisse.

PE

During our PE lessons, we have started our athletics unit. We have been identifying the parts of our body we need to focus on to help us run successfully. We have also looked at controlling our balance and maintaining this when performing a movement.

Geography

We have loved the beginning of our geography unit - we have looked at the United Kingdom and have been able to name and locate the four countries within the UK; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We used salt-dough to identify each country on the map and then painted each country in the correct colour to show we can locate them.

We have explored an atlas in our geography lessons. We have know it is a book of maps and we looked at the different features; the contents page, index and labelled diagrams. We enjoyed comparing the different types of maps we could see such as satellite images to drawn maps.

Science

In Science this term, we have been working as biologists. We have been able to identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees. We have explored the trees around our school and been able to identify them from our knowledge of leaves. We have enjoyed the narratives 'The Tiny Seed' and 'Christopher Nibble' in our science lessons to explore our learning concepts further.

Booknic!

We were very excited to take our Reading for Pleasure session outside for a Year 1 Booknic! We loved sharing the different books with each other including fiction and non-fiction texts. We love reading everyday at school!
