Term 6

Term 6

Another busy term ahead and one where the children will be able to practise and rehearse their learning across the curriculum. Sports Day is in sight too!

In Maths this term we embed our knowledge of key learning so far before looking at time and statistics!

In English, we have Poetry Slam in Week 2 before recapping our skills of narrative writing to show that we can now embed these skills.

There are so many exciting opportunities this term as we look ahead to the wider curriculum too. From striking and fielding in PE, construction in Design and Technology, living in the wider world through PSHE, countries and capital cities in Geography and continuing our excitement when learning further about the Great Fire of London in History.

WOW! We are so excited!

Design Technology - Can the fitting of wheels and axels affect the impact of a product?

Science - Is a tree alive?

History - What was the lasting impact?

PE (1) - Is competing always important in games?

PE (2) - How is practicing the skills going to improve your performance?

RE - Why does Christmas matter to Christians?

PSHE - Is everyone part of a community?

Music - Do songs share a structure?

Geography - Why are cities important?

English

POETRY SLAM! To start the term in English, the school has taken part in Poetry Slam! Year Two had a poem called 'Bedtime' by Eleanor Farejon. The children have enjoyed reading, learning from memory, rehearsing and performing their poems to each other. They've used their emotions, acting and performing skills as well as props to help them too! Great work!

Geography

In Geography we have been exploring the United Kingdom and landmarks in our first lessons this term. We know that England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland make up the United Kingdom with their capital cities London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast. The children developed this further by exploring UK landmarks and where they are placed. Awe and wonder at its finest!

Science

In Science during the first couple of weeks, the children have been learning about animals and their habitats - following on from their learning about basic needs in Term 5. We have explored the difference in habitats and how animals adapt to their environment. For example, polar bears in the Arctic have a layer of fat in the tummy to keep them warm in the freezing temperatures and camels have long eye lashes to help keep the sand out in the desert. We know these animals wouldn't survive in certain parts of the world which is why they adapt to their environment. The children used picture cards to decide which environment and habitat they would find them in and verbally explained to each other how they adapt to their environment they live in. Great work!
