Term 2

Maths

In Maths, we have been looking at addition. We have been able to make fact families and create addition number sentences. We have been able to use this knowledge to help us understand number bonds within and to 10.

Our latest maths learning has consisted of being able to add two numbers together using our knowledge of part-whole models. We have been able to use objects and the ten frames to represent the numbers we are adding together and write the number sentence once we had created it on the ten frame. We are able to use sentence stems to help us with our explanations such as 'One part is ___. One part is ____. The whole is____' and '____ plus ____ is equal to____'.

English

To begin term 2, we have been exploring the story 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. We have been able to re-tell the story and describe characters to enable us to write the beginning, middle and end. We have enjoyed using drama, role play, puzzles and story maps and mountains to help us have a secure understanding of the story.

Our next narrative in English is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We were introduced to the story by finding some visitors in our classroom along with 3 bowls and spoons. We were able to explain that 3 different sized bears, bowls and spoons were in our classroom and were able to explain that this links to a story we are familiar with. We then read the story together.

Planetarium

We have been extremely lucky to have had a visit from the Planetarium. We were blown away by the information about the solar system and planets. We were given lots of information about astronauts and star gazed. We are very excited for our future learning about space!

RE

In our RE learning this term, we have been retrieving our knowledge from Term 1 about Christianity. We have learned about ways in which Christians live to please God and we have been introduced to the Creation story which will help us answer our Big Question: Who made the world?

DT

Our DT learning has given us great excitement as we are learning about free-standing structures. We know that we are going to be creating a bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff to cross successfully ensuring it meets our success criteria. We started our unit by exploring free-standing structures in our environment and discussed what is classed as a free-standing structure. We looked at free-standing in our local area such as Boston Stump and then we researched free-standing structures across the world we are aware of such as the Eiffel Tower and The Shard. We have been able to explore different materials to create free-standing structures, identifying which is best and ways to make our structure stiffer, stronger and stable.
