Term 2
Term 2
We have lots of exciting opportunities for the children this term including school trips and we are also very excited about learning the songs and lines for our Christmas Nativity. In Maths this term we begin to move our learning towards addition and subtraction where the children will be solving problems and applying the strategies taught to solve number calculations. The texts we shall be looking at in English this term are 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff', 'Goldilocks' and 'The Snowman' the children will be given lots of opportunities to develop their speaking and listening skills before retelling the stories themselves.
Starlincs Planetarium
The children had such an amazing experience inside the planetarium. Learning all about the solar system and the different planets. Along with star gazing and gaining lots of knowledge about astronauts. It was a wonderful experience that all of the children really enjoyed.
In Maths this week the children have been using tens frames and part, part-whole models to help them learn how to write addition number sentences. In English we have been reading the story of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. The children have listened to the story, ordered the story, retold it and drew their own story maps.
In our DT lesson this week we learnt that we are going to be creating a bridge for the Three Billy Goats to cross safely. We began by looking at what a free-standing structure is and then identifing free standing structures in the environment around us. After that we discussed the Boston Stump looking at its features and then labelling it.
Our DT learning has given us great excitement as we are learning about free-standing structures. We know that we are going to be creating a bridge for the Three Billy Goats Gruff to cross successfully ensuring it meets our success criteria. We started our unit by exploring free-standing structures in our environment and discussed what is classed as a free-standing structure. We looked at free-standing in our local area such as Boston Stump and then we researched free-standing structures across the world we are aware of such as the Eiffel Tower and The Shard. We have been able to explore different materials to create free-standing structures, identifying which is best and ways to make our structure stiffer, stronger and stable
We have also been learning about road safety, we discussed how we can cross a road safely and then practised this outside.
