Reading for Pleasure
The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
We were very excited to start reading this novel as a class! This tells a detailed version of the classical story 'The Jungle Book' with lots of interesting vocabulary! We are hoping to add any new vocabulary to our BAT display in the classroom to help us when we are creating our own stories.
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy
We enjoyed reading this book today and studying the beautiful illustrations. As a class we reflected on the meanings behind the quotes and stories within the book. We then practised painting in the style of Mackesy to support the making of our Christmas Art.
The Iron Man - Ted Hughes
During our whole class reading, the children answer questions based around VIPERS. These are a few examples:
What do you think will happen to the character?
Can you think of an alternative word for 'immense'?
Why was he happy to find his eye?
How to wash a Woolly Mammoth - Michelle Robinson & Kate Hindley
Using the VIPERS can you answer the following questions?
What does 'notoriously tricky' mean?
What is a step-by-step guide?
Why might it suggest not getting shampoo in the mammoth's eyes?
What must you do for step two?
Find and copy one word that means the same as cuddle
