Term 6

Welcome back!

We cannot believe that it is the last term of year 2! We have a very busy term with lots of fun activities planned. We will also be beginning to prepare the children for their transition into year 3 and help them feel settled ready for their move into lower key stage 2. As well as this, the children will continue to learn about the impact of The Great Fire of London and begin learning about animals in their habitats. Our PE days will be on a Monday and a Wednesday.

With the weather improving and temperatures rising, please can all the children come to school with a sun hat and plenty to drink! Children can bring sun cream into school which they can apply themselves.

PSHE!

In PSHE, the children have been looking at money and how to keep it safe. They talked about keeping money safe in a piggy bank, purse and bank account.

Geography!

In geography, the children have been learning about the capital cities in the United Kingdom. The children used atlases to locate the countries and the capital cities in the UK.

Design Technology!

In design technology, the children have been looking at different axles. They found out the difference between freely moving and fixed axles. They then experimented with making axles and axle holders out of different materials.

Maths!

In maths, the children have been learning about pictograms. The children made their own pictograms and found out about the importance of looking at the key first to find out if 1 picture stood for 1, 2, ,5 or 10 people.

PE

In PE the children have been developing their ball skills. They have been practising kicking the ball with the side of their foot and giving the ball light touches so that they keep the ball under control.

Addition and Subtraction

In maths, the children have been practising their addition and subtraction skills. They have been adding and subtracting two digit numbers. They have used manipulatives to help them to exchange when crossing the tens boundary.

Careers

The children have thinking about the different careers that they can do when they are older.  It was amazing how many jobs they came up with.

Turns

In maths, the children have been learning about whole, half and quarter turns. They went out on to the playground to practise drawing the different turns.
