Term 4
Term 4
Welcome to an overview of our Term 4 learning in Year Two!
Our subject Big Questions this term are:
Design Technology: Why are the users needs important when designing a product?
Geography: Is life in the Arctic difficult?
PE (Invasion): How can we develop balance and coordination?
PE (Sending & Receiving): Does a sequence of actions help your success in sending a ball?
PSHE: Is risk always dangerous?
Religious Education: What does it mean to belong to the Ummah?
Science: How do the properties of materials dictate their uses?
English
In English this term, we started with the brilliant story Handa's Surprise. This is a familiar story to the children which they have come across in Year One. This term we use the story to develop our vocabulary choices in order to find ways to create some great descriptive writing. Firstly, the children recapped the story and plotted the sequence. Then, using their speaking and listening skills, they retold the story using role play in small groups. Great work!

PE - Sending and Receiving
In PE this term with Mr Kirkman, the children are taking part in a unit called Sending and Receiving. We started off this unit by looking at the techniques of rolling a ball with one and two hands before practicing what we can do to receive the ball being rolled to us successfully too. The children practiced in pairs and had two cones set out like a gate to try and get the ball through to their partner - a tough challenge but one in which the children flourished in. Great work, Year Two!

Design Technology - Textiles
In D.T. this term, we are exploring the world of textiles! The children are working towards making their own bags from a design template they will create! Very exciting. In this lesson, the children explored a range of different bags in the style of a fashion show. The children discussed the different types including their similarities and differences. Hopefully the children have begun thinking about the bags they liked and how they are going to create their own!

World Book Day 2026!!!
What a truly special day at St. Thomas'! There were many fantastic characters and costumes on show and the children LOVED discussing and reading their own books from home and sharing a love of reading with each other. A really special day!

Geography
This week in Geography the children used locational language to compare the positions of the continents across the world. This helped embed knowledge of the continents and their locations. For example, Europe is North of Antarctica and Asia is East of Europe. The children answered questions in pairs based on the locations of continents. A great understanding of vocabulary!

Physical Education
This week the children developed their sending and receiving skills focusing on stopping the ball with our feet and then sending the ball to our partner using our feet too. The children used their feet to pass the ball to their partner - sending. The partner stopped the ball with the bottom of their foot before sending it back using their instep. Great practice and rehearse techniques!
