Term 4
English
In English, we are writing to explain. Our first text type is focusing on instructions as we design our own board games. Of course, we had to do our research which saw us play snakes and ladders. Even the adults joined in on the fun!
How does a cat work?
Using the text, ‘How Does a Dog Work?’, we decided to write a text explaining how a cat works using a bit of humour. We had great fun being clever with our explanations and step by step explanations on how cats decide where to sleep!
World Book Day - MC Grammar workshop
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we watched a live lesson with MC Grammar who was promoting his book but also sharing the importance of reading and how we can make reading come alive by rapping well known books such as ‘The Gruffalo’. Lots of us saw MC Granmar perform at Young Voices so we were very excited to spend some time in the live lesson and as a treat, Mr Shortland brought MC Grammar’s new book for us to read our classroom book at the end of the day.
PSHE
This term will see us continuing our work on answering our big question from last term. We will look at the difference between medication and drugs and how to break habits.
Road Safety Workshop
This term, we were lucky to be given a road safety workshop where we discussed dangers of the road and safe places to cross.
Science
In science this term, we are looking at animals including humans, looking specifically at teeth, the digestive system and food chains.
Digestive System experiment
As part of our learning linking to animals, including humans, we have been looking at the digestive system and what actually happens when we eat food. This was a lively experiment with lots of gross sections…..which we loved! Using household items such as tights, bananas, biscuits and orange juice, we recreated the digestive process.
RE
In RE, we are focusing on Creation, specifically the Creation Story that Christians believe and how Christians are Stewards of God using the bible as their guide.
Creation
In our lesson, we decided to go outside and sketch something that had the WOW factor from the human made world. This was after we had listened to Louis Armstrong’s ‘A Wonderful World’ before listening to a guided visualisation of the Creation story from Genesis as we begin to investigate deeper the Christian Creation story.
Design and Technology
In DT this term, we are focusing on Electrical Circuits, following on from Science last term. We are going to be creating our own lamps out of recyclable items.
Geography
In Geography this term, we are looking at Europe and the countries that make up the continent. We then look at landmarks following on human and physical features.
Gymnastics
In one of our sessions in PE, we will be working on our gymnastics unit working on a range of balances, rolls and using equipment.
Orienteering
Our second session of PE will be looking at Orienteering where we will focus on using a map correctly and finding markers around the school.
Using a map on a netball court
This week, we took our map reading skills to the next level as we started using maps on a netball court to find the cones and the numbers that were on them. We had to get close to the numbers and find a certain number of cones to total the numbers before Mr Shortland would let us move to the next map. This will help us before we start to use the maps of the school to navigate around.
