Term 3
Term 3
A busy term ahead and one where the children will be able to practise and rehearse their learning across the curriculum. There are also lots of opportunities for children to embed their learning with visitors and trips too!
In Maths this term, we start by looking at 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. We will continue to embed and retrieve knowledge on place value, addition and subtraction too.
In English, we start with an exciting Speeches Week followed by instruction writing. Lots of opportunities to develop our spelling, punctuation and grammar knowledge too.
Across the curriculum, we will be looking at the impact of explorer Robert Falcon Scott in History, developing our ocarina skills in Music and exploring materials in Science. Also, in PE, we will be taking part in target games and dance - how very exciting - we can't wait!
Our big questions this term:
Computing - Why do instructions need to be clear?
History - Is one person able to change the world?
Music - Does the structure of music matter?
PE (1) - How does dance help my feelings?
PE (2) - How does challenge motivate you to improve?
Art - What form is spring?
PSHE - Is risk always dangerous?
RE - How do Muslims follow the straight path?
Science - How do the properties of materials dictate their uses?
History
Is one person able to change the world?
We worked as historians this week and looked at clues to try and find out who Robert Scott was and what he did. We discovered that Robert Scott was an explorer and he wanted to be the first person to reach Antarctica.
Maths
In maths we have been learning about shape. We used our knowledge of the properties of 2D shapes to have a go at drawing our own.
Science
How do the properties of materials dictate their uses?
In science we have been looking at different materials. This week, we have explored objects made out of different materials and described their properties.
Music
Does the structure of music matter?
We have been practicing and rehearsing our technique on the ocarina to ensure we are creating a clear, tuneful sound. We have been working as musicians in smaller groups whilst following the leader (Mr K!) to show we can follow cues. Also, we have started to learn the song 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star' using notes to follow. Fantastic work and great fun!
Computing
Why do instructions need to be clear?
This term our focus is code - how exciting! We have been looking at ways we can give instructions. We first started practising giving each other instructions before writing our own algorithms to give the Bee Bot machine instructions. Then, the children created their own maps for the Bee Bot to follow. Great paired work!
