Term 2
Maths
This term in Maths we are learning how to use the column method to add and subtract 3 digit numbers! We have consolidated our learning of hundreds, tens and ones and can now accurately write 3 digit numbers. We started exploring what happens when we add the ones, tens and hundreds without the need to exchange. This week we have started to look at what happens when we need to exchange 10 ones into the tens column alongside exchanging 10 tens to the hundred column!
This has then progressed to estimating and thinking about if the number is closer to a higher or lower hundred. The children then were able to solve lots of problems.

PE - Yoga
This term, the children have been learning various balances and understanding how to move in and out of them for a yoga sequence. They also realised that breathing was important as well as a focus point.

Music- Singing and performing
In preparation for the Christingle service, the children have been learning and rehearsing Christmas songs. They have learnt how the dynamics and tempo can make a real difference to a song. The children then learn how a performance can be enhanced by the emotion too.

Geography - Compass points
To support the children learning about the eight points of a compass, the children played games outside running to the correct point of the compass. As the confidence grew, they then took over the role of directing each other too.

History - Flag Fen
To help the children understand about Stone Age through to Iron Age, they visited Flag Fen. This taught them how people in the past lived and what life was like. They saw artefacts and asked lots of interesting questions. Well done Year Three.

Today in Science, we looked at how magnets worked. We learnt that they attract and repel. There is a force pushing or pulling the magnets.

DT - Moving pictures
As part of the Design Technology work, the children explored pop up books and looked a detail how the pictures moved. They then looked at designing and making their own version before drawing, cutting and attaching pieces to create their own moving picture.

RE - Islam
It has been wonderful to see the children build and widen their knowledge of Islam. They learnt how they follow a straight path. This helps keep things in harmony.

Class Collective Worship
To explain the meaning of Honesty, the children produced their own worship. It was fantastic to see them singing, reading aloud and showing great confidence. It was a memorable performance for all.

Children in Need
To celebrate Children in Need, the children had a non-uniform day and a bake sale to raise money. They were also very excited to meet Pudsey bear too.

Anti-bullying week
To help the children understand about anti bullying week, they took part in a live lesson to help them understand how they could use their power for good. They thought of ways they could tell a trusted adult or tell others to stop. They also participated in Odd Socks day too.

Christingle Service
After learning songs and lines about the meaning of the Christingle, the children performed at St Thomas' Church. The children sand beautifully and even used sign language with Silent Night. There were soloists and everybody's voice was heard when reading out.

Calendars
As part of our art skills, we have been exploring the illustrations of Charlie Mackesy and focusing on the thin and thick lines that he used. Then we added water colours to it.

English - inverted commas
Before we applied our learning of inverted commas into our stories linked to the Croods, the children learnt a rhyme and then rehearsed examples on wipe boards. We are excited to see speech included in their writing soon.

French - responding to questions
