Term 1

Welcome to Term 1

This term we will be giving opportunities for the children to settle into their new learning environments, form new friendships and begin to follow our school rules and routines.

Reception will be introduced to a range of stories this term including The Colour Monster and We’re going on a bear hunt. We will visit some traditional tales such as Goldilocks and the three bears and The Little Red Hen. From these stories, there will be provision set up each week for the children to engage with and develop their communication and language. The provision will support children’s abilities within literacy, maths, understanding the world, physical development, personal social emotional development and expressive arts and design.

The children have enjoyed exploring the classroom and outdoor area, promoting a lot of sharing, taking turns and joining in with new friends.

The children have been looking at grouping things into colour, shape and size during our maths learning. We have also been using the whiteboard and pens to practise our letter formation of the sounds we have learnt so far.

Lots of outside play to develop our gross motor skills. Hula hooping and balancing on the beams. The children have been sharing the resources and helping each other to balance - good to see fellowship being shown!

Our story of the week has been 'We're going on a bear hunt'.
The children have loved joining in with the repeated phrases in the story and re-telling the story using different actions.

Joy Class had a visit from Asda Steve this week who came with some ingredients to make and bake bread. Following on from reading 'The Little Red Hen' the children made the bread (all by themselves). We had to mix the ingredients and knead the dough ready for the oven. The bread tasted warm, soft and yummy!
