Summer Term 1
Welcome to Summer Term in Tolerance Class.
We can't wait to continue to share our learning with you!
RE- Expression Through Art
How are religious beliefs expressed through the arts?
This term, we begin by examining different art forms and how they communicate meaning between humans. Exploring religious and non-religious artwork, we look at how creativity is expressed in different ways. Identifying the emotion, religious understanding and meaning behind artworks, we will then create our own work in response to the themes of the Spirited Arts Project.
History- Ancient Greeks
How has the legacy of the Greeks impacted the modern world?
This term we begin to explore the ancient civilisation of the Greeks and how their legacy can still be seen today. Understanding the characteristics that determine a civilisation, we learn about the Olympic Games and how important they were to the Ancient Greeks and how people lived in Sparta. We will work as archaeologists as we explore replica artefacts of objects from the period and what they tell us about life at the time.
Science- Living Things and their Habitats
How does the cycle of life differ for all living things?
Working as Biologists, we build upon our prior learning about different animals and plants and their lifecycles. We will explore how the life of different groups of animals begins and how they develop and change. We will identify the life cycle of a flowering plant, enabling us to build up on our prior knowledge of flowering plants, the purpose of each part and how they reproduce.
Art-Drawing
How can drawing become aspirational?
Exploring the highly acclaimed work of E. H. Shepard, who was well known for his illustrations in Winnie the Pooh, we will identify the use of line to create texture. We will look at diminishing scale and create our own illustrations.
Music- Singing
Performance- What is our desired impact?
This term we get the opportunity to build on our Autumn learning as we continue to build upon our singing skills. Exploring singing in two and three part rounds, we will identify how to use our voices in different ways for the chorus and verse and how this will impact the listener. Identifying the emotions and feelings of songs, we will think about how we alter our voices accordingly as we follow the lead of a conductor and sing with the correct diction.
French- Professions
Quelle est votre profession? This term we will begin to understand some of the vocabulary associated with different professions. Reading, saying and then writing simple sentences to identify professions will follow.
PSHE-Living in the Wider World
Are stereotypes always negative?
Building on prior learning about living in the wider world, we begin to understand how money and resources are allocated locally because of decisions made nationally and consider the impact of this on the local community. We consider the importance of protecting the environment and how we can do this and persuade others too.
Computing- Create
What is a formula?
This term we learn how to enter data on a spreadsheet and how to format cells, constructing formula to apply to data. We then use this information as we plan an event.
PE
Orienteering- What is the goal: teamwork or reaching the journey?
This term we develop teamwork skills through completion of a number of challenges. Working individually, collaboratively and in pairs and groups to solve problems, we are encouraged to be inclusive of others, share ideas to create strategies and plans to produce the best solution to a challenge. We will be given the opportunity to lead a small group as we learn to orientate and navigate using a map.
Athletics- How does competing improve your mental health?
Being set challenges for distance and time that involve using different styles and combinations of running, jumping and throwing is just one of the activities we will complete.. As in all athletic activities, we will think about how to achieve our greatest possible speed, height, distance or accuracy and learn how to persevere to achieve our personal best. We learn how to improve by identifying areas of strength as well as areas to develop.
