Hope Class
Welcome to Hope Class page!
Class Teacher: Mr N Shortland
We hope you have had a lovely Easter break and ready to continue our learning in Term 5.
Please click on the star for each term below to find out more about our learning.
Reading books
Please can we ask that reading books and records come into school every day so that we can listen to your child read in school as often as possible. We encourage children to read to their adults or siblings at home and leave a comment in the reading log. We know life can be hectic, so as year fives we encourage them to take responsibility for their own reading. If they have read to themselves they can also log this, any books read can be entered into this log as we love to discuss their reading choices with them. Our reading logs have room for pupils to write a comment and give the book or chapter read a mark out of 10. Encourage your child to think about and explain orally why they give that score.
Homework and Spellings
Each week, your child will be given spellings to practice at home alongside homework activities. This will be given out on a Friday and should be handed back in by the Wednesday.
PE Days
Please can we ask that the correct PE kit is to be in school ready for lessons at all times including outdoor PE kit as we like to get outside and be active as much as possible. We are timetabled to have PE on Monday.
Swimming
For the next two terms, we will be taking part in Swimming lessons as part of our PE curriculum. These lessons will be happening on a Wednesday morning.
Please can you ensure that your child has the following each Wednesday:
Swimming kit on under their school uniform
Towel and underwear in a bag
Long hair tied up and ear rings out before coming into school
Goggles and swim hats can be worn
Please note, that there will be 2 weeks where swimming will not happen due to the pool being used for top-up swims for Year 6s across Boston.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact school where we will be happy to help you.

Times Tables
Alongside homework, we will be setting challenges on MathShed linked to our learning. This is to prepare the children for the Multiplication Check that they will be sitting towards the end of Year 4. Any spare moment, please practise times tables. If you need any support with this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
