Term 3

Term 3
''Can anyone be a hero?''

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and enjoyed time with your families. We are very excited to see the children continue to progress with their learning and take part in lots of exciting opportunities. This term the children will explore superheroes and think more about superheroes that we have within our community, looking at different professions and job roles. We will be reading texts that have superhero like characters in them such as 'Supertato' and 'George and the dragon'.

We have looked at different jobs within the community and the children have been able to say what they would like to be when they grow up.

We have been reading 'Supertato' this week.
The children have loved listening to the story, describing the characters, talking about how evil the pea is and from this have been able to order pictures from the story in order. We have been using my turn, your turn to repeat the phrases from the story.

This term we are focussing on our gymnastic skills in PE. The children re-told the story of 'Jack and the beanstalk' whilst balancing across lines and beams. The children were able to climb the plank and jump off safely by bending their knees as they land.

Some creative 'zoo building' with use of the artic animals this week. The children have also been practising how to form capital letters and developing their fine motor skills with threading activities.

The Jolly Postman
In literacy this week we have been reading the story 'The Jolly Postman' who delivers lots of different types of post to the traditional story characters. Using our writing this week, we put these in an envelope and walked to post our letters. The children were really proud of their writing.

Visit from the PCSO
We have been talking about 'People who help us' within the community this term. We were lucky to have a visit from a local PCSO who came to talk to us about her job role. We tried some of the police uniform and asked a lot of brilliant questions.

Balancing skills
Through re-telling the story of 'Goldilocks and the three bears' the children were able to follow instructions and practise their balancing skills in our PE lesson. The children were finding different ways to balance in the bowl of porridge.

Identifying one more and one less
We have been using manipulatives in maths to support consolidating our understanding of one more and one less. The children were able to count out the right amount of cubes onto their 10 frame, then listen to the one more or one less instructions.
