Welcome to Term 2

This term the children will understand how and why everyone is special, we will begin to understand tolerance and explore a range of cultures and celebrations. We are also very excited about this term as we will begin learning the songs for our Christmas Nativity. In Maths, the children will begin to explore counting and number recognition but also take part in solving problems. The children will now split for phonics daily and consolidate their set 1 sounds and begin to read some words with greater independence. We are looking forward to seeing how all of our children continue to flourish and grow this term. There will also be lots of experiences for Reception to to take part in, this will include our school trip to the woods and a fire engine visit.

Our first week back has focussed on searching for shapes around school. Joy class have investigated how many sides or corners different shapes have. We were able to speak about triangles and circles and find examples of them within the environment.

Exploring pumpkins, counting seeds, cutting fallen leaves, creating fireworks and a lot of talk about Autumn animals for our Topic learning this week. 

Fire engine visit - 6.11.25
Linked to our Bonfire night learning this week, we arranged a visit from Lincolnshire Fire department who came with their fire engine. We got to sit inside the engine, look at all of the equipment that the fire fighters use and listen to the different sirens.

Westgate woods walk - 7.11.25
Joy class went to Westgate woods to look for some signs of Autumn. The children enjoyed a walk around, finding different coloured leaves, talking about the weather and looking at the information boards for animals. 

Maths Week 2 - sorting numbers 4 and 5
This week the children have worked in pairs to sort the picture representations of 4 or 5.

Children in Need - 14.11.25
Today we came dressed in non-uniform to raise some money for Children in Need. Joy class took part in some cha-cha dancing, some colouring activities and collected a cake from the cake stall.

Week 4 in Joy class
This week we have been learning about road safety, making stick puppet cars and people to role play with. We have been outside on the scooters using stop and go signs. The children have also spoken about the safety of sitting in a car seat. We have also been learning about part, part, whole in maths and using the ducks in the water tray to then represent this independently.
