Term 3

English - Speeches Week

This was brilliant to see the children become so passionate and animated when they presented their speeches to the class. They had certainly researched well, ordered their thoughts and been persuasive.

PE - Gymnastics

It did not take long for the children to understand how to create balances using points and patches. They also learnt to perform a straddle, star, tuck, front support, dish and arch balance to link into a short sequence.

Science - Lights and shadows

The children investigated what happened when torch light went closer and further away from objects. They were quick to observe that the shadow  increased in size the closer the light source. They were then able to record their observations.

PSHE - healthy eating and living

After discussing what people eat and what is recommended for children to help them live a healthy lifestyle, the children designed their own plate. They were surprised by how much fruit and vegetables were suggested for each day.

Maths - multiplying a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number

The children have used base ten and pictorial representations to show how to multiply. They have had to practise and rehearse to secure their understanding. Great resilience shown.

Art

In Art, the children have compared the work of Charlie Macksey and Paul Cezanne. They quickly spotted that one used watercolours and one used acrylic. They then used the paintings to experiment themselves.

Computing - Scratch

The children have already learnt to create an algorithm through adding commands in blocks. This enabled the character (Sprite) to move around. Week on week, the children will build on this knowledge.

PE - Tennis

The children have learnt how to use the racquet face to hit the ball. They understood to use a strong wrist to hold it and then the centre of it to hit the ball.

Reading time in the library

As part of the children's reading for pleasure time, they visited the library. They enjoyed looking at new books and sharing them with friends. What a super time we had!

RE - depicting the baptism of Jesus

To show their understanding of the baptism of Jesus, they discussed and compared two images. They then created their own version. Excellent conversation was had about what symbols they could see and what they meant.
