Big Questions that the children will be looking to answer over the term:
Art - Can sculpture be made from anything?
Computing - Can we believe everything we read?
Fitness - How does fitness improve your mental health?
Football - How does teamwork help you to succeed?
French - Peux-tu écouter?
History - How did life develop over the Ages?
Music - Are keyboard instruments the most important?
PSHE - Does respect always look the same?
RE - What do Hindus believe Brahman is like?
Science - How can rocks be identified based on how they are created?
RE - Hinduism
In RE, the children observed salt being poured into water and how it disappeared comparing it to Brahman (the one true God) being in all living things. The children were able to understand that it was inside and that is why Hindus are vegetarian. They explored the three Gods of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva that create Brahman.
Maths - Place Value
Using the concrete apparatus and the part part whole model, the children found and used the most suitable way to partition and explain the value of two and three digit numbers. The children enjoyed explaining their method and demonstrated confidence when doing so.
PE - Fitness
The children have been learning how to balance during their fitness sessions. They have learnt how to keep their chest up, focus on a point and squeeze their muscles.
Science - Rocks and Soils
To begin our Science, the children made a mind map of all their current knowledge about rocks so that we can add to it later in the term. They then played a game of What am I? They looked at a type of rock zoomed in and then made sensible predictions about what it could be. They quickly discovered that it was chalk. Outside, the children went on a rock hunt before exploring and learning about the three types of rock - sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic.
Computing - e-Safety
The children have been learning how they can keep themselves safe on line by exploring what an avatar is. They have learn what the word means and how they others online use them too. They were quick to spot how and why famous people used them too. We have created our very own. They have also learnt about fact and opinions. They are learning that facts tell us the truth but opinions can present false information.
PSHE - Different types of families
In PSHE, the children have learnt about how their are different types of families. After reading the The Big of Families, the children then identified the different types and discussed how families are there to care for them, help and guide them.
English - Following instructions
As part of the English unit, the children followed instructions to make a paper boat. They evaluated how easy or challenging they found it.
French - playing Jacques et dit
To learn and remember classroom commands, the children played a game similar to Simon Says... Great fun was had and lots of rehearsal of French vocabulary.
RE - Hindu visitor
Wow what a special treat Year Three had this week. Sinita came to the school and taught the class about a Hindus's way of life. She showed the children traditional dress and allowed the children to dress up, shared traditional stories that the children will re-visit during their RE lessons, traditional dances and the opportunity to handle some objects and jewels. We loved how the children threw themselves into it all and excelled during the dancing.
Guided Reading
The children are enjoying their text Omar 'The Accidental Trouble Magnet'. They have read Chapter 1 and 2 and eager to find out more. Great echo and choral reading heard.
Art - Nature sculpture
As part of the work linked to Tony Cragg, the children explored the outdoors for the natural resources that may look good as part of a sculpture. The children then placed the objects together in a variety of ways deciding what looks better.
English - non chronological reports
Using the knowledge of features of a non-chronological report, the children were detectives in piecing one back together. We loved how they matched the subheadings to the right paragraphs of information.
