Welcome to Term 1
This term we will be giving opportunities for the children to settle into their new learning environments, form new friendships and begin to follow our school rules and routines.
Week 2 and 3
The children have made a wonderful start to Reception and have settled into our routines beautifully. They are beginning to build positive relationships, make new friendships and develop a strong sense of belonging as part of our St Thomas’ family. Through our continuous provision, the children have been exploring and learning through play, inspired by The Colour Monster and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. They have been developing their communication and language, confidence, creativity and understanding of the world as they investigate, imagine and share their ideas with others. We have also begun learning our Set 1 sounds, with the children showing great enthusiasm as they develop their early phonics and reading skills. It has been wonderful to see the children becoming increasingly confident, curious and independent learners as they begin their Reception journey.

Week 5
We have continued to settle into our routines in Reception and are becoming increasingly confident, independent and resilient learners. The children are fully immersing themselves in our continuous provision, making choices about their learning, following their interests and having the opportunity to practise their new skills. It has been wonderful to see the children working collaboratively, sharing ideas and developing their friendships.
In phonics, we have continued learning our set 1 sounds and are developing our ability to segment and blend sounds together. Please continue to support your child at home by practising their sounds and blending regularly. The QR codes sent home each week provide a useful way to reinforce the sounds we are learning in school and will support their early reading. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child to become a confident and enthusiastic reader.
