Little Gonerby's suggestions

After building a link with the BSK and TSK school in Kuwait, Mrs Endersbee recommended the following books for Key Stage One. We are excited to develop this link further for Key Stage Two in September.

In the classrooms, the teachers have their own selection of recommended reads and the children have suggested their own too.

Engaging Parents and Families

We invited parents to send in their family's favourite books and had some great responses of books you may wish to read if you haven't already!

O in Reception

Supertato by Sue Hendra

Oliver and I read this before bed almost every night. He remembers the words and joins in as we read it together. We enjoy the story and characters.

M from Reception

Superworm by Julia Donaldson

Millie remembers the words and with learning to read can start to pick out some words. We enjoy the stories and characters.

S in Y2

Little Miss and Mr Men books

She enjoys when I make them have different voices and she is able to read them herself also. It makes us laugh

E from Year 3

Pablo and Splash by Sheena Dempsey

We enjoy the stories and characters.

L in Year 5

Double Act by Jacqueline Wilson

It’s a great collection and lots of fun, it teaches us something new.

S from Year 1

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

Stanley enjoys the story about a little boy that has nothing then in the end he gets everything that his family need. We enjoy the story and characters.

O in Year 1

The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson

We enjoy the story and characters as a family.

H Year 1

Superworm by Julia Donaldson

When we read this it makes us all happy. It starts up a great conversation between us too.

C and K from Reception and Y5

Fix it Duck

The repetitive phrases meant that the children could anticipate and join in easily and could even attempt to read it themselves from memory (before learning to read). Everyone can join in with this book which makes it a family favourite.

B Year 3

The BFG

This was read to my son in class and then he wanted to watch the film and read it at home as he really enjoyed it. It starts great conversation between the family as we read it.

Poland links

When staff visited Poland, they got to visit their library to see what sorts of books they had in there. It was interesting to see the layouts and the selections they had.
