Overview 15th March

Home learning (and the results of the physical challenge scavenger hunt)!

In Maths, we are revisiting shape. We look at the regular and irregular polygons, including triangles and quadrilaterals. Watch out for the practical drawing this week. Please read the overview for instructions
In English we will be drafting then publishing the explanation text based on your marmalade making inventions. Tuesday, please use the power point examples to help you write your sentences about your marmalade making machines. Wednesday there will be a video in the Resource Centre to help you, then you will continue writing your paragraphs. Thursday, finish the explanation text, there will be a video modelling how to write your conclusion. Friday is exciting - publication day! Present your explanation in a creative way, see the example for ideas.

Study the pictures on the document then write down what you can see, what you would like to know and what you can infer from the pictures.

Read the 60 second read texts (carefully!) and answer the questions.

Read then complete the next set of comprehension questions in the CGP book, page 12.

PSHE

What number can you call in an emergency?  Be aware that number is 999 OR 112 and that even if a mobile phone has no credit etc. it can still be used to make an emergency call. Look at  slides 4 and 5 you know you should always keep yourselves safe before helping others – discuss the word hazard and ask for examples to check for understanding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOwYPhJfYx4&feature=youtu.be

Use slide 9 to introduce the word LIONEL to help us remember all the information we may need to give to the call operator. We need to give correct information for the emergency services to find the scene quickly and easily. This is easy to do if at home but, consider if you are out in woodland etc. Discuss how if a house address is not available then they can also use landmarks or local points of reference as a guide. 999 Call handlers will assist in helping them to do this. Role play the scenarios.

Mindfulness

Blow bubbles ‘slo-mo’ style, emphasizing a big deep breath in through the nose to fill the bubble… and out through the mouth as slow as possible

RE – Discuss what they are thinking about Jesus being the Messiah after looking at the texts from the Gospel and the prophecies. How much evidence do you have?  Mind map information including the eye witness quotes. Then as a class create a timeline that may be useful to work through. Task - Write and illustrate a newspaper report claiming that the Messiah has arrived, and is Jesus, comparing it with the Jewish expectations expressed in their ‘Wanted: Messiah’ advertisement.
In Geography we are using what we have learned about tectonic plates to explain the formation of mountains. Draw and label a diagram showing the four layers of the Earth first, researching if you need a reminder of these. Then read the power point for information about the formation of mountains and complete the sheet to show your understanding of these processes.

In Science, we will investigate thermal conductors and insulators. Use the power point to help set up your own investigation that determines which material would be best for the scenario given.
