Week beginning 11th January

Overarching Question Term 3:

'Is anyone responsible for the changes to the world?'

Please spend time over the term discussing this question together and take the time to reflect on the changes that you come across as we journey through these unusual times.  You can share your child's ideas by emailing our class email: diversity.remote@infinityacademies.co.uk

Reading Comprehension

We recommend reading 30mins a day. This can be completed in short blocks or all at once.

Overview plan of the week beginning January 11th

Irregular shapes answers

The extract includes the first chapter, that we read last week, you need to focus on the second chapter, which is called The Green Dark. As predicted by many of you, the plane has crashed - read on to find out what happens next! The power point and PDF are the same, we have put the work in both formats to make sure you can all access the work. These contain the tasks for this week.

As always, contact me if you have any problems or if you want to show me your work.

Reading comprehension 15.01.21

We will be exploring persuasive advertising this week: how do advertisers try to persuade you to buy their products? First, you will identify the features of persuasive adverts, then later in the week create one of your own.

RE

To explain what Christians mean when they say that Jesus’ death was a sacrifice.

Using the images from the stations of the cross and the Easter story itself, act out the different scenes. Think about how well or badly the different characters come across. Can you answer the question 'How do Christians remember Jesus' sacrifice?'

Art

Recap about the shading techniques from last week, which were hatching, cross hatching and stippling. Read the Power Point and watch the video links. Complete your own still life applying the shading techniques.

PSHE

To promote about the benefits of being outdoors and in the sun for physical and mental health, have a look at the images and decide how they might help. Then inside or outside can you set up some movement challenges (safely). (Jumping on the spot, balancing one foot, jogging on the spot etc...) Complete each one for one minute. How many can you complete? How do you feel immediately after completing them? How do you feel a few hours later? Why might people benefit from doing them daily?

Extension: Try the retrieval and reflection task.

There are spelling activities for you to practise this week's focus ending -ough. There are also punctuation and grammar activities for each day.

Science

We know how much our Year 5 children love animals, so this term’s Science should make you really happy! We are learning about living things and their habitats, which links to our Speeches Week last week.

This week’s challenge is for you to compare the life cycles of an amphibian and a bird. Before you can do this, you need to understand the life cycles of each. This power points describe the life cycle of a bird (do this one first), the other describes the life cycle of a frog (which is an amphibian). The power points include tasks, which you can do in the exercise books in your packs.

Now that we know the link between our very own Boston and Boston, Massechusetts in the USA, we are going to explore the states of America. If you have an atlas at home, please use that if not, there is a map of the USA in the documents for you to use. Your task this week is to identify states and where they are using the 8 points of a compass. There is a compass showing the points on the map page.
