Welcome back. I do hope you had a lovely break over Easter. This term is very exciting as we explore Ancient Greece in all its glory. The children will experience making and tasting breads as part of DT, design and make their own sculpture in Art as well as experience the Olympic events of Javelin and Discus in Athletics. Through History and Geography they will research, locate, compare, make connections and present their findings about the Olympics,
Through English, we will learn how to develop a narrative when reading The Odyssey. We will develop our use of descriptive language, dialogue and sentence structure. In Maths, we will continue our knowledge and understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages.
We will continue our special our special aspect of Year 5 of the Young Leaders Award, organised by the Archbishop of York Youth Trust. Archie is the character through which we learn to “be the change we want to see”. Leadership, kindness, and responding to challenges are important at any time but are particularly significant in the world today.
Our PE days will usually be Monday and Tuesday however this does change sometimes and extra opportunities for sport arise, so please ensure PE kit is kept in school ready for use any day. Long hair must be tied back and no jewellery, including watches, are to be worn.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Year 5 team.
Our class novel for this term is the non-fiction book 'Ancient Greece' and the 'The Odyssey'.
