1st March overview

The children will be re-visiting work about position and coordinates, They will revisit reading them and learning how to plot them on a grid.
The instructions for this week's Guided Reading are in the first document listed. In order to ensure you read a range of texts, we will be reading The Explorer alternate weeks and providing different texts on the weeks in between. The tasks include a variety of ways to help you reflect upon what you read.

We begin the week as usual with Handwriting practice, something everyone can work on especially if you hope to be awarded a handwriting pen ready for Year 6!

In English, following our verbal exploration of language to inform last week, we are going to write a letter from Mr Brown to his insurance company this week. Watch the videos for support with this on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday promises to be very exciting, not only because we are all going to be wearing pyjamas, but as we explore the classic children's book, Tom's Midnight Garden by Philippa Pearce. Friday we will edit the drafted letter and publish it.

Practise spelling words with a silent letter t this week. Carefully copy these words into the Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check sheet then practise them each day.

fasten, listen, glisten, soften, castle, rustle, hustle, bustle, jostle and whistle

Use the documents to help you practise spelling them and then challenge yourself to write a silly story in which you include all of these words!

SPaG practise should be done daily, this week you will be using your CGP book.

Please complete page 14 on Monday, page 15 on Tuesday, then page 21 Wednesday, page 22 Thursday and page 23 Friday. (As shown on the overview sheet).

A written report from the scene (Matthew 1:18–24, 2:1–12). (Background -The Jewish followers of Jesus gradually began to believe that Jesus was this Messiah, and that he fulfilled the prophecies. You are an investigator so look for and highlight some of the evidence in Matthew’s Gospel that led Christians to believe this (see sheet) . What clues are there that Jesus is the promised Messiah? Link each of the expectations by highlighting .(Most Jewish people at the time did not believe Jesus was the Messiah — and Jewish people today still do not think he was.) There is not evidence for all of the prophecies in the text.
In Science we are working to understand what dissolving means. Read the power point information first, and watch the video in the Video Resource Centre for a reminder about fair testing before you start experimenting. You have the opportunity to investigate this in different ways - two documents with structured suggestions are provided, as well as a blank document you can use if you have your own idea for an investigation.
Understanding the rainforest biome is our Geography challenge this week, watch the BBC clip about the rainforest and take notes, in order to be able to answer the quiz questions at the end!
The activity is for the children to complete a risk assessment. The children should read each situation, decide on the level of risk and list potential dangers. Discuss and complete in partners and then review. Extension - Can you of your own situation? Draw the image. Reflection task – concept cartoon linked to risks in school.
